Kevin Coveney: Oppose Denny’s animal cruelty

AS A BOARD MEMBER OF THE DENNY’S FRANCHISE ASSOCIATION, KEVIN COVENEY CAN HELP END EXTREME CRUELTY
Kevin Coveney, CEO of Retro Concepts, LLC, runs two Denny’s restaurants in Zanesville and Cambridge, both in Ohio. Coveney is also a Denny’s Franchise Association board member and its Strategic Supply Chain Committee’s (SSCC) Chair.
A Food Logistics article from 2016 states that franchisees sign a purchasing agreement that designates the SSCC as its purchasing agent, agreeing to abide by and fulfill the purchase commitments made by the SSCC on franchisees behalf. This means that Kevin Coveney has a significant influence over the products that end up in nearly all of Denny’s restaurants.
Currently, the diner chain purchases pig products from farms that keep pregnant mother pigs in cages so small they can’t turn around. Due to Denny’s refusal to address this extreme cruelty, a nationwide campaign is exposing this abuse and franchisees are facing the consequences through protests and harmful PR.
Coveney is responsible for doing what’s best for the franchisees he represents, yet by ignoring this animal cruelty, he is failing them. As the Chair of the SSCC, he needs to step up and address the extreme animal abuse in Denny’s supply chain.

DENNY’S IS IGNORING PUBLIC calls to end cages
In 2012, Denny’s made a public commitment to eliminate the cruel practice of caging pregnant pigs—just as their competitors have done—yet little progress has been made.
Being trapped in these cages is physically and emotionally devastating for these intelligent animals.
In the middle of a nationwide campaign calling for an end to gestation cages, with over 53,000 messages sent to Denny’s by the public, the company continues to ignore the issue and deletes any questions about it from their customers on their social media pages.
Caging animals is illegal in 11 U.S. states and several countries. Removing these crates is the bare minimum Denny’s can do to reduce these animals’ suffering.

Kevin Coveney holds an influential position that can impact the lives of thousands of mother pigs confined to tiny metal cages. Instead, he has remained silent while these animals continue to suffer.
